CM orders action against clinics using animal medicine on humans

LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif on Monday took strict notice of the use of veterinary medicines by quacks and private clinics for treating humans, and has set August 30 as the final date for the eradication of any such acts from the province. He said that after the set date, if the activities continued, the executive district officer (EDO) Health and Drug inspectors would be held responsible. He also directed EDO’s of each district to ensure that 100 percent action is taken against the offence. The CM said that under the Drug Act, clinics of the persons indulging in such practices would be sealed and cases would be filed in the Drug Courts. He said that the EDO concerned would be responsible for monitoring the prosecution of the offenders. He also said that reports had been received about quacks using boards leased by registered medical practitioners. He said that for any such case, other then departmental proceedings, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council would move for the cancellation of the registration. He directed that a detailed report from each district with regard to the action taken be sent to the provincial secretary for health, who would personally submit it to the CM on September 1. He also ordered that the general public be sensitised to the issue via print and electronic media. The District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) of the respective districts will hold a meeting on August 30 and submit their findings to the chief secretary. staff report
