Govt will distribute ‘state land’ among tenants: Sana

* Punjab law minister hints at initiating action against Moonis Elahi
* Zaheeruddin asks government to register FIR if charges are true

Staff Report

LAHORE: The Robert Agricultural Farm is state property and the government will distribute land from the project among the tenants, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Friday.

Talking to reporters after attending the assembly session, he said the Board of Revenue had been working on the matter and the land would be distributed among the people who had been living there since 1947, after completing all legal formalities.

Sanaullah showed reporters a copy of the farm’s sale deed, registered in the name of Moonis Elahi, son of former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi. He said the farm belonged to the state, alleging that Moonis and his accomplices, Brig Mukhtar Ahmad, Ibrahim and Imtiaz Ahmad had illegally purchased the land in 2005.

He said the farm was established before 1947 on the directions of the British government and had become state property after the Partition. He said Elahi had acquired the said farm without paying a penny.

Legal action: To a question about initiating legal action against the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader, Sanaullah said the government was considering all options.

Register a case: Opposition leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin condemned Sanaullah’s rough attitude towards the opposition MPAs, adding the government should register an FIR against Moonis if the charges were true. Moonis had already withdrawn from the said deal, he added.
