Roots School System launches e-learning web portal - Naveed Yaseen - 11-12-2009 06:23 AM Afshan S. Khan The Roots School System has launched a special online home study web portal http://www.rootsschool.edu.pk/homestudy. The objective of the web portal is to ensure that ‘learning never stops’ and the basic facets of learning continue to be fulfilled even if students are at home for any reason. The online outreach programme by Roots refers to the instruction at home through curriculum posted on the web portal. The Roots home study portal contains grade-wise printable worksheets, virtual assessments, comprehension sheets, activity sheets, descriptive writing sheets, guided writing sheets, supplementary sheets and assignment sheets for all subjects for each age group. Moreover, it offers teaching guidelines for parents and students, virtual Q-A forms for asking home questions, and a host of web links with teacher advice. The worksheets are divided into levels, which include Montessori to Grade 7. Online learning potentially allows students and parents’ access to specialised learning resources and materials, and greater flexibility in scheduling self-study time and resources. The best part is that parents can be with their children during the online study sessions and sponsor an extended classroom at their own doorstep. Addressing the launching ceremony of the web portal here on Wednesday, Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq, director of the Roots School System e-Learning Programme, said the goal of the portal is to provide resources that our students could actually use to supplement their learning while at home. It also aims to provide for self and home study guided learning opportunities in parental and self-supervision to catch up with lost teaching and learning hours at school in the current circumstances. He said young students are the future of the country and we must work together to make them succeed even at home! http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=208146 |
