Punjab: Police martyrs’ families will be given houses, says Shahbaz - Naveed Yaseen - 12-01-2009 07:33 AM LAHORE: The Punjab government will provide houses to the families of martyred policemen who have no suitable accommodation of their own, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Monday. Addressing a function arranged for presenting gifts to the families of police martyrs at Qila Gujar Singh Police Lines, he said the government would also bear the educational expenses of the martyr’s children. CM assured the aggrieved families that the provincial government would do its best to take care of their needs. Praising the sacrifices rendered by the policemen in the line of duty, Shahbaz said they laid down their lives for the security of the nation. Shahbaz said the government had doubled the salaries of the police force, adding that the people of Punjab now expected improved services from the police force. The chief minister said those who undertook the Rs 9 billion Bank of Punjab scam would be taken to task. Earlier, Shahbaz told reporters at the Gulab Devi Hospital that the nation had rejected the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) as it was against the existence of Pakistan and the “worst attempt to hide corruption”. He said the recovery of written-off loans was as important as the elimination of the NRO and the time had come to hold accountable those who looted the nation’s money. He said the provision of medical facilities to the poor was the responsibility of the government. “It would be an injustice if medicines are not available to the poor, while those who got billions written-off continue to lead a luxurious life,” he said. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\12\01\story_1-12-2009_pg7_29 |
