US Congress delegation to arrive on 30th
By Iqbal Choudhry
ISLAMABAD: A delegation of US congressmen will arrive in Islamabad on March 30 as part of the Pakistan-US parliamentarians-to-congressmen contact initiative, sources told Daily Times on Sunday. Congressman Davis Price, who heads the House Democracy Partnership, will lead the delegation. During the two-day visit, the delegation will meet National Assembly Speaker Fahmida Mirza, Senate Chairman Farooq Naik and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan. The US delegations will hold talks with local parliamentarians on the recent Pak-US strategic dialogue and their opinion on how to strengthen bilateral relations. Other matters of mutual interests will also come under discussion. According to another source, local parliamentarians would raise the issue of the US policy of carrying out body searches of Pakistanis. Senator Khursheed Ahmed told Daily Times that parliament had formed contact groups as a part of parliament-to-parliament contact strategy. “We have understandings with more than 50 countries of the world under which the parliamentarians visit each others’ countries,” he said. |
