NAB references against Malik
AC puts off hearing into cases’ withdrawal
Staff Report RAWALPINDI: The Accountability Court (AC) No IV on Thursday adjourned hearing into a petition of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for withdrawal of two references against Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik till July 13. Earlier, Additional Prosecutor General (APG) Malik Jamil Awan appeared before the court on behalf of NAB and contended that NAB as the prosecution agency of the reference could withdraw the case at any time before conviction under section 31-B of NAB Ordinance. “Both the references against Malik regarding commission in the vehicle deal and stealing cash and other valuables form the house of a citizen at Lahore during a raid have not proved yet even after passing 13 years. He said NAB was not interested to proceed further in the cases, as these references were “baseless”. AC No IV Judge Chaudhary Abdul Haq asked the APG that it was appropriate to withdraw these cases when the superior court gave its verdict about the pardon to Rehman Malik by President of Pakistan. The judge adjourned the hearing till July 13. |
