Diamer Bhasha Dam: World Bank's halting of funds termed partisan act
LAHORE (July 04 2010): General Secretary Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan Liaquat Baloch has termed halting of funds and support by World Bank for construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam on the protest of India, a partisan act. In a statement on Saturday, he alleged that World Bank was patronising India in its act of stopping the water of Pakistan by constructing dams in the rivers, which were coming from Occupied Kashmir.
He demanded that government should take steps to remove the hurdles in the construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam. The demanded government should also build consensus for construction of dams that are technically viable, otherwise, our agriculture and industry will be destroyed, he warned. Baloch condemned suicide bombings at Data Darbar and termed it a conspiracy to trigger sectarian violence in the country. He said both the federal and provincial governments have failed to provide security to people. |
