Five children die of hunger in Kohistan
PESHAWAR: Five children died due to malnutrition in the flood-stricken Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as relief efforts remained suspended for the third consecutive day due to bad weather. According to reports, five children died in the Kundian valley of the district due to malnutrition resulting from food shortage. The Kohistan district remains cut off from the rest of the province due to complete blockage of roads. The communication disconnect has also suspended the flow of relief goods into the flood-affected areas of the district. According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) estimates, 150,000 people remain stranded in Kohistan. The authority put death toll in the district at 85, while more than 32,000 have been displaced by the floods. According to initial estimates, 1,902 houses have been completely destroyed and 488 partially damaged.
