October 13 will also pass away: PM
LAHORE – Speaking in the context of much-talked about ‘political change’ in the country, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that the government had not run out of options, and ‘October 13’ will also pass away quietly. “This will also pass away,” he remarked while talking to a group of journalists at his DHA residence, asserting that all state institutions including judiciary, were ‘one’ to protect democracy in the country.
A journalist had asked the prime minister about what was going to happen on October 13, the day when Supreme Court would resume hearing of the NRO case.
He said he had not seen any disagreement among the institutions about future of his government. They are ‘one’ to safeguard and protect democracy, he said, adding that the government would complete its tenure.
Gilani also appreciated the pro-Parliament remarks by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry made recently while hearing a petition on 18th Amendment. He said the CJ had also asserted on several occasions that he was not in favour of derailing the present system.
“The judiciary wants to strengthen democracy for which all of us have rendered sacrifices”, he said, adding that he held the judiciary in high esteem.
The PM informed the journalists that the present Army Chief was also a proponent of democracy. He denied that the recent meeting among the President, the PM and the Army Chief had anything to do with the talk of ‘change’ in the country. He insisted that it was pre-planned, and the three had discussed defence-related issues. “You people should have trust in three of us,” he maintained.
Replying to a question, he said it was not his job to ask the ISPR to clarify Army’s position on its role in any situation. He said he did not want to politicise the Army.
