Pak team arrive in UAE for SA series
Lahore—Pakistan cricket squad, including 17 players and eight Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials, has reached Abu Dhabi where it will play series against South Africa, a private television channel reported Saturday.
Earlier, team Manager Intikhab Alam, while talking to media at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, said the players had worked hard in the training camps and were mentally and physically fit to perform. He hoped to see the return of international cricket return to Pakistan soon and said the team would perform well under Afridi’s captaincy. The series between Pakistan and South Africa will begin on October 26 and two Twenty20 Internationals will be played in the first phase. Earlier, the players reported for their departure to manager Intikhab Alam at the National Cricket Academy. Chairman PCB Ijaz Butt who had to deliver lecture on the new code of conduct went to Karachi due to his personal engagements and in his place, Intikhab Alam gave briefing to the players and stressed them for maintaining discipline. Out of the two, one T20 match will be played to raise funds for the flood victims of Pakistan. The floods killed more than 1,600 people and left more than four million homeless. People in large number were present at Lahore airport to see the team off with cheering shouts. |
