Quota for widows, orphans in Ashiyana: CM
PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government has launched the Ashiyana Housing Project for the benefit of the low-income people of the province and autonomous company has been set up for the scheme.
He was presiding over a meeting of the Board of Directors of Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to review the progress of the housing project here on Monday. Shahbaz said the Punjab government had launched Ashiyana Housing Project for the benefit of the low-income people of the province and an autonomous company had been set up for the purpose. He said that under the housing scheme, houses would be provided to low-income people at a reasonable rate along with availability of all facilities. He said all the residential schemes under the housing project would be completed in a transparent manner as the houses would be allotted through balloting. He said special quota had been allocated for widows, orphans, the disabled and martyrs in the scheme. The chief minister said that Ashiyana Housing Scheme was a welfare project of the Punjab government launched to materialise the dream of low-income people. He said the board of directors should select reputed companies which could execute the scheme within timeframe maintaining a high standard of construction. He said that besides Lahore, projects would also be implemented under Ashiyana Housing Scheme in other districts of the province and suitable locations were being identified for the purpose. The CM said that efforts would be made for early implementation of Ashiyana Housing Project and the board of directors would have complete authority to take any decision in this regard. Earlier, PLDC Chairman Sh. Allauddin gave a briefing on the housing project. Khawaja Imran Nazir MPA, Lahore Transport Company Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Finance, Housing, Communication & Works and senior officers concerned were also present. Daanish schools: Shahbaz Sharif has said that aim of progress and prosperity can only be achieved through elimination of illiteracy and ignorance. He was talking to parliamentarians from various districts who called on him here on Monday. Shahbaz said that only those nations had progressed which had given due importance to education and equipped their youth with modern knowledge. He said the government had set up Daanish schools to provide educational facilities to the poorest students of backward areas on a par with the developed areas. |
