Local cement sales decline 15% in 1QFY09, exports grow

KARACHI: The provisional cement sales have shown a decline of 15 percent in the first quarter (July-Sep) of FY09, to stand at 4.88 million tonnes. According to the cement dispatches report by JS Research, exports continued their robust growth and witnessed an impressive 58 percent increase to reach 2.47 million tonnes. “Uncertain political and economic conditions of the country continue to hamper infrastructure as well as private sector development projects in the country causing local cement sales to bear the brunt,” analyst Bilal Hameed said. staff report
