‘Pakistan a safe place to do business’
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Malaysia, Lt Gen (Retd) Tahir Mahmud Qazi, urged Malaysians to invest in Pakistan as the country is safe to do business. In an interview with Bernama News Agency in Kuala Lumpur, Tahir Qazi said no foreign company has left the country and in fact some international companies were investing in Pakistan. He said in World Bank’s Doing Business Report, Pakistan was placed well above major world economies in the ranking among 181 economies of the world, describing this “as a show of confidence in Pakistan by the world.” Qazi asked Malaysian investors to invest in Pakistan’s power and energy sector as it possesses huge potential. Another area is construction where Pakistan, with some 162 million people, is in need of more than 500,000 new houses annually, he added. He said despite incidents of bomb blasts and terrorism, the overall security situation in the South Asian country was under control. “Well, this is the time to come and invest. Those who take the initiative are always the winners. I urge the Malaysians to take the initiative and be among the winners,” he added. He said what’s important was the will and capability to tackle terrorism and in this context, he stressed that both Pakistan’s armed forces, being one of the best in the world, and the government, are capable of overcoming this threat. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2008_pg5_8 |
