Work on Liaquat Road in progress
After completing development schemes including carpeting of Benazir Bhutto Road and Rashid Minhas Road, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is now working on carpeting and widening of Liaquat Road leading from Raja Bazaar to Liaquat Bagh. PML-N MNA Malik Shakil Awan told ‘The News’ that work on the new scheme was started in November. The approved cost of the Raja Bazaar Road project was Rs100 million, however it is being completed in Rs60 million saving an amount of Rs40 million, he added. Under the project, both lanes leading from Raja Bazaar to Liaquat Bagh Chowk would be expanded by five feet on both sides. Work on one lane has been completed while the remaining would also be completed in the next two weeks, he said. All encroachments have been removed during work on the project. The main objective of the plan is to resolve the long-standing traffic problem right from Gordon College to Raja Bazaar Chowk. “It is a remarkable achievement of the PML-N government and the work is being carried out under his supervision for ensuring standard work, Shakil Awan said. In the past no elected representative paid attention on this vital problem which created hardships for the people. Instead of resolving the issue, the previous representatives elected from NA-55 had been encouraging encroachers to do business on roadsides. During the last six months, the Punjab government has implemented dozens of development works including carpeting of Benazir Bhutto Road, Rashid Minhas Road from Marrir Chowk to Kutcheri Chowk, Fifth road, Sixth Road and Seventh Road. Now work on carpeting and expansion of Liaquat Road is almost completed. The Punjab chief minister had donated a special package for all schemes to make Rawalpindi a developed and model city. Work on big parks is also being carried out while establishing a Punjab Horticulture Agency (PHA) in Rawalpindi, foliage work has been promoted in the entire city. Greenery and leave plantation could be witnessed every nook and corner of the city. |
