CDA to build more parks, playgrounds

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to build more parks and playgrounds in Islamabad in order to provide maximum recreational spots to the people. A CDA official said that at present there were around 180 small and six big parks in the capital but as the population had increased exponentially in the recent years, these parks were not sufficient to cater public needs. “In 2007-08, the population of Islamabad was 0.8 million but it has reached 1.6 million now. Therefore, existing parks and playgrounds are not enough to accommodate the public,” he added. He said the CDA was getting Rs 16 million every year for the development of parks, adding that the civic body had formed associations in every sector of the capital to look after the parks. He said steps were also being taken to improve the condition of existing parks and playgrounds in the capital. Islamabad police were also taking action against those individuals who chop down trees or misuse the parks, he added.
