Turkish group to invest in infrastructure projects
ISLAMABAD: A Turkish construction group is planning to invest in infrastructure projects, including expansion of airports and wind power projects in Pakistan, it was learnt. Talking to Chairman Board of Investment Mohammad Zubair and Secretary Imran Afzal Cheema, Mehmat Aly Neyzi, chief executive of Turkish STFA Construction Group, said the group has decided to re-launch in Pakistan, based on the invitations from various authorities in Pakistan, and is willing to work as a contractor and investor for developments. The Project Development Director STFA Orhan Unalah was also present. The group had been awarded the projects of development of the two sections of the Indus Highway in 1992, he said, adding that was the first Turkish contractor in Pakistan. Besides, the contractor has undertaken Ormara Naval Harbour project for Pakistan Navy and Lahore Bypass project for the National Highway Authority. Other projects completed by the STFA Group in Pakistan include the construction of the main canal and tunnels for Pehur high level canal, reconstruction of berths at East wharves at Karachi port, Liquid Cargo Terminal construction, and rehabilitation of iron ore and coal berth at Port Qasim and Turkish embassy building construction. Chairman BOI Muhammad Zubair said the government is taking major initiatives to encourage foreign investment by strengthening institutions, consistency and continuity of policies, provision of security to investors and execution of viable projects. |
