Lahore: CM seeks report on Canal Road expansion
CHIEF Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the completion of Thokar Niaz Beg Flyover up to January 15 next year and Walton Road till 15th of this month.

He issued these directions while addressing a meeting held to review the pace of implementation of various development projects. Task Force Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, LDA DG, C and W secretary and NESPAK MD were also present.

Mian Shahbaz Sharif said provision of best travelling facilities to the people was one of his top priorities. He said development projects had been started throughout the province for this purpose.

He said the pace of work on Multan Road should be further accelerated. He said timely and quality completion of the development projects should be ensured and third party audit of these projects must be carried out.

The chief minister also ordered immediate transfer of the TEPA chief engineer for not getting third party audit of Walton Road project despite his clear instructions.

He said delay in completion of the development projects would not be tolerated and these would be completed in a transparent manner.

He said the project of Thokar Niaz Beg Flyover was of great importance due to rush of traffic as it was situated at a conjunction of five roads. He said this project had already been delayed, therefore, it should be completed till January 15 next year at all cost.

He also directed the firm carrying out the construction of the Thokar Niaz Beg project to ensure timely and quality completion of this project.

He said the government would provide all the funds needed for early completion of this project. He said he had already issued clear instructions to the departments engaged in construction activities that maximum work should be carried out at night so that people did not face inconvenience.

While reviewing the construction work on Walton Road from Ferozepur Road to Khayaban-e-Iqbal, the CM directed the officials that this road should be completed up to November 15 instead of November 30 as undisciplined traffic on it caused traffic jams on other roads linked with it.

He said to the Task Force chairman and the LDA DG that his vision about construction of projects was clear that the third party audit of all these projects must be carried out and strict implementation of his orders be ensured otherwise action would be taken against the person responsible.

He directed the NESPAK MD to submit a report to him for widening the road from Thokar Niaz Beg to Moghuplura and making it of three-lane due to increasing rush of traffic on it. He said that this fact must be kept in view that the trees should not be cut down during widening of this road.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Defence Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar called on Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday.

During the meeting, development projects of the province, including various matters of mutual interest, were discussed.

Talking to Federal Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government had taken numerous steps for improving the living standard of common people in the province. He said special attention was being paid for provision of health, education, potable water and other facilities to the people. He said huge funds were being spent on the provision of standardised and modern facilities of health to the people.

Besides ensuring availability of doctors, medicines and medical equipment, generators are also being provided in the hospitals throughout the province and dialysis centers are being established for the facility of kidney patients, he added.

The chief minister said Green Tractor Scheme had been launched for strengthening agriculture sector and welfare of the farmers under which tractors are being provided to them in transparent manner through subsidy of rupees two lakh.

He said the Food Support Programme was being carried out successfully for providing relief and rehabilitation to the poor families living below the poverty line. He said the infrastructure was being improved for promotion of economic activities. ‘Provision of best travelling facilities to the masses and timely, quality and transparent completion of development projects is being ensured throughout the province’, he added.

Later, Parliamentary Secretary and MNA Ghulam Mujtaba Kharal also called on Chief Minister Punjab.
