Rawalpindi: RDA to start establishment of economic zone soon
RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will start work on establishing an economic zone in Rawalpindi soon to speed up economic activities in the region, said RDA Director General (DG) Makeen Shahbaz on Saturday. He was talking to the business community during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) offices here. Punjab Chief Minister Monitoring and Development Cell Chairman Sardar Muhammad Naseem, RCCI President Syed Asad Mushadi, Vice President Imtiaz Chaudhry and other office-bearers were also present on this occasion. He said there was a dire need for an economic zone in Rawalpindi and thus RDA decided to establish it. He said the economic zone would encourage the furniture and marble industries and create more job opportunities in the area. Shahbaz said RDA was starting construction work of parking plaza at Fowara Chowk with its own funds. He said RDA had planned construction of more parking plazas across the city but the shortage of funds was hampering these projects. Naseem said RDA had chalked out a comprehensive plan for the establishment of economic zone and in this regard the Punjab government had been requested to allocate funds. Mushadi requested Shahbaz to allocate space near China Market and Commercial Market for the parking plazas. He said the private sector would construct the structure at its own. staff report
