Engineering Development Board plans entry in international engineering market

ISLAMABAD: Chief Executive Office of Engineering Development Board (EDB), Asad Elahi said here on Saturday that Mid term plan for entry of the engineering industry in international markets has been formulated. He stated this during a meeting with the JICA team to discuss the concept papers on the Common Facility Centre (CFC) at Okara, proposed Pakistan Iron and Steel Institute (PIASI) and Development of Agricultural Machinery and Implements Sector. He said that the Board was a facilitator to the industry to enhance industrial productivity in the country. “It is working for the capacity building of different segments of the engineering industry by enhancing training facility and assisting the industry in upgrading their skills for improved working”, he added. The CEO said that the Board is concentrating on the development of steel, electronics, foundry, agricultural implements and electrical machinery sectors and JICA can assist it to improve the growth of the engineering industry. JICA was requested to provide the services of short term experts to formulate these projects on solid grounds. Mohsin Syed, Chairman, TVETA and Director, National Industrial Parks Development and Management Company (NIP) gave a presentation on the Okara Project. Asif Sharif a Progressive Farmer and Producer of Agricultural Machinery and Implements presented the sectoral overview. S M Adil Shah, GM (Steel), EDB highlighted the available capacity, per capita steel consumption and background and objectives for the establishment of PIASI.
