Nadra to renew CNICs after ten years
The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) will renew computerised national identity cards (CNICs) after every 10 years, said Nadra Chairman Saleem Ahmed Moin.
Talking to journalists here on Thursday, he said, 5.2 million CNICs, which were issued during last six years, expired in 2007 and 2008. “All these CNICs were issued or are being issued for another period of 10 years,” he added. He said the purpose behind having 10-year expiry period for CNICs is maintaining a continuous process of updating nationwide population data. He said following issuance of first-time CNICs, a process was adopted that all those CNICs would expire on 30th, 40th, 50th etc birthday year of cardholders. “After that the CNICs will be issued for next 10 years,” he said. The Nadra chairman said that 10,000 to 15,000 people contact Nadra Kiosks every day for verification of data. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=122137 |
