Karachi: CDGK sanitation schemes producing results
By Irfan Aligi
KARACHI: Under the directives of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, special sanitation and improvement campaigns have commenced. In this regard, North Nazimabad Town Nazim Mumtaz Hameed launched the insecticide campaign that has been repeatedly conducted for the last three years. Talking to Daily Times, Hameed said that successive anti-mosquito spray campaigns in the town have proved to be effective and the town residents are protected from the Dengue viral infection. “It is the collective responsibility of the town administration as well as the town residents to make concrete efforts for a healthy and pleasant environment,” said Hameed. He said that toilets, bathrooms, sewage lines in mosques and apartments as well as plants pots, should be routinely sprayed with insecticide. Hameed, along with Town Municipal Officer Farrukh Zaidi, supervised the beautification work carried out in certain Union Councils (UC) of the town. At the KDA Chowrangi near Golden Gate, a six feet wall has been reshaped so as to make parked cars visible and deter the incidents of car lifting. In different UCs of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, a door-to-door awareness campaign regarding water conservation and the proper use of garbage bins was also conducted. Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Nazim Wasay Jalil urged the residents to avoid wasting potable water and throwing domestic garbage on streets. Jalil also said that car owners should park their vehicles at specified locations. Jalil said, “Wasting water has become a habit but now the town administration has launched a campaign in this regard to create awareness amongst the town residents. City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has spent billions of rupees on the construction of roads, establishment of parks and planting of trees so that the town looks developed and soon the town will present a positive image.” In Malir Town, the Solid Waste Management Department has culled more than 150 stray dogs during the anti-pye dog campaign with the culled dogs being disposed off immediately to prevent any nuisance in the area. Nazim Jamshed Town Javed Ahmed visited certain areas in the town including Azam Basti, Azam Town, Chaneesar Goth, Hill Area, Dada Bhoy Town as well as areas in Mehmoodabad to oversee that the area residents have been relived of commercial water tankers after the inaugurated of the three million gallon water supply line on Friday. Ahmed assured the residents that road repairs and installation of street lights in UC 1 and UC 5 will begin soon, he also thanked the residents for warmly welcoming the city nazim on Friday. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...09_pg12_13 |
