US envoy to raise Dr Khan issue
WASHINGTON: The US State Department said on Monday the US special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan will speak with senior Pakistani authorities this week about the release of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan from house arrest. The State Department also said that Foreign Ministry officials assured US Ambassador Anne Patterson on Sunday that Dr Khan would not be a future proliferation risk. Spokesman Robert Wood said the US would closely follow Khan’s case, AP reported. Separately, a US official requesting anonymity said Pakistan has assured control of at least some of Dr Khan’s movements, AFP reported. He said Patterson had been informed that Khan has to notify the government 48 hours in advance before leaving Islamabad. agencies
