Islamabad: Centre set up for quake prediction
ISLAMABAD: A station to conduct scientific research and forecast possible earthquakes has been established in the Federal Capital. The station called Atropatena is very sophisticated and first of its kind in Pakistan and would start functioning soon, this news agency learnt on Tuesday. The station has been developed in collaboration with Azerbaijan at Centre for Earthquake Studies under patronage of National Centre for Physics (NCP). A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed last month between Centre for Earthquake Studies (CES) and Scientific Research Institute for Earthquake Prognosis and Studying Earthquake. The MoU is aimed at establishing a long-term cooperation to improve the mutual scientific knowledge about the earthquakes, which will enable to devise better construction by-laws and safety plans for buildings. This is the first station developed and established outside Azerbaijan, a station of this kind is already operational in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. app
