Mobile centres to issue NICs to Bajaur women
KHAR: Tribal women in Bajaur Agency are keen to obtain national identity cards (NICs) and mobile NIC centres have been set up to facilitate them. The National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) mobile centres have started functioning in different areas of the agency. Friday and Saturday have been assigned for women to get their ID cards made. NADRA is making arrangements for timely issuance of cards to both male and female applicants in the agency. Bajaur Political Agent Shafirullah Khan Wazir told reporters that a large number of people were getting their ID cards. He said women had been allowed to get their cards made in ‘purdah’ because of tribal traditions. He said tough security arrangements had been made to thwart any unpleasant incidents. The agency people and tribal elders appreciated the political administration’s decision to issue NICs to women. Recently, the Taliban had prevented women from obtaining NICs and declared the grant under the Benazir Income Support Programme un-Islamic. staff report
