Islamabad: Project to widen Kashmir Highway to begin in Sept
ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to launch a project to widen Kashmir Highway in September, which will be completed in two years.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Kamran Lashari, the CDA chairman, and attended by Moeenuddin Kakakhel, member engineering; Raja Nosherwan, member planning and design; Asad Munir, member estate; Abdul Jabbar, director general works; directors road north and south and other high officials of the CDA.

The meeting informed Lashari that according to a survey conducted by the consultant, around 40,000 vehicles use Kashmir Highway every day. The highway will consist of three flexible lanes and two rigid lanes on each side. Six bridges would also be constructed on the highway. To complete the project on time the authority has divided it into four phases.

Speaking on the occasion, Lashari said that strict action would be taken against the contractor if he failed to complete development work at D-12 sector on time. He asked the project director to submit a progress report every Tuesday on provision of basic facilities including Sui gas, electrification and other service. The CDA chairman was informed that 50 percent development work in sector D-12 had been completed, while the remaining work would be completed by December this year.
