Lahore: IT, Tech Dept records burnt in LDA fire
* Timely rescue prevents loss in fire at Dayal Singh Mansion
LAHORE: The Information Technology Department and Technology Department’s records were burnt to ashes in a fire that erupted on the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Complex’s sixth flour near Aiwan-e-Adl on Sunday. The fire engulfed eight rooms, resultantly burning the records and computers in the office. The fire reportedly continued for two hours. Firefighters of Civil Defence, Rescue 1122 and Fire Brigade took part in the rescue. Cause: The firefighters said several files and a large number of computers were burnt in the fire. The cause of the fire remained undetermined until the filing of this report. DCO Sajjad Bhutta said the rooms that caught fire were being used as record rooms for various departments. He said the fire damaged eight rooms, adding that the agencies thankfully controlled the fire before it could cause any further damage. An official of the Rescue 1122 said five vehicles of his department participated in the operation, adding that it took one and half hour to extinguish the fire. Separately, a fire also erupted in a room at the Dayal Singh Mansion due to short-circuiting. However, barely any loss was reported and the fire was extinguished before it could spread thanks to timely response from Rescue 1122 officials. Also on Sunday, another fire erupted at Khokhar Road in a cardboard godown due to short-circuiting. The fire reduced material worth several hundreds of thousands of rupees to ashes. The fire was extinguished after a half-hour operation. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg13_8 |
