Banks to receive donations for displaced people

KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Tuesday asked all commercial banks to open special accounts for receiving donations for people displaced in Dir, Swat and other parts of NWFP and FATA.

Prime Minister’s Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism will mobilise resources and render a helping hand in the relief efforts for the affected people, SBP said in a handout.

Donations to the fund will be received from both domestic and international donors. Contributions from abroad will be received at all branches of scheduled banks where such branches exist. In other foreign countries, contributions will be received by Pakistani missions and remitted to the SBP.

Commercial banks have been asked to display a notice board at a conspicuous place of their branches saying ‘Donations to Prime Minister’s Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism are accepted here’.
