‘Zero tolerance against desecration of National Flag’: IG Balochistan
QUETTA: Balochistan Police Chief Asif Nawaz Warraich said on Thursday that officials have been directed to show zero tolerance towards the elements who desecrated the national flag and forced educational institutions from reciting the national anthem at the opening of schools.
Addressing a press conference at his office, he added that police had arrested 37 suspects of total 400 nominated in various incidents of terror including target killings, bomb blasts and others. The information extricated from these suspects had led to the arrest of several high value targets and a cache of arms, he added. Recounting performance of the police, Warraich said the police had arrested 849 proclaimed offenders, 2,501 absconders of whom 87 were wanted on terror charges, 510 weapons including AK-47s, pistols and others, 277 kg of explosives, adding that they had recovered 3,307 kg of narcotics, 149 stolen cars and 46 motorbikes, busted 88 car lifting groups, and registered 1,192 cases against individuals and 740 regarding property. Moreover, the police has set up committees comprising of notables and police officials at the muhallah, tehsil and district levels, which will coordinate with people to curb crimes and rebuild people’s confidence in the police. To a question, Warraich said 22 police officials, 16 Frontier Corps functionaries, 32 settlers and 85 others had been killed in 201 violent incidents throughout the province during the last five months. He hinted that the performance of police officials would be considered in transfers and postings. Officials showing poor performance would be transferred, with efficient officers posted in their place.
