Karachi: DHA assures of effective measures to tackle monsoon
KARACHI: The Association of Defence Residents (ADR), led by its General Secretary Asad Kizalbash, called on DHA Administrator Brigadier Khalid Tirmizi at the main DHA office on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by DHA, the ADR delegation was given an in-depth briefing on the rain emergency preparations jointly being made by DHA and CBC to meet any untoward eventuality during the monsoon season. The preparatory measures taken by DHA and CBC include de-silting of all nullahs, cleaning of sump pumps and storage of essential rain emergency equipment and accessories for the emergency. The delegation was assured that there would be no flooding in DHA during the monsoon rains this year. The storm water drains would ensure effective drainage of rainwater from all major roads and streets in the area. However, there could be localised ponds of one to four inches of water on streets in few localities, which would be drained out through an efficient pumping action. Arrangements for cleaning and sweeping of roads after the dewatering operation, including fumigation, have also been made. Rain Emergency Control Centers would overlook and monitor the entire operation. The delegation was informed that almost all major roads in DHA have been reconstructed and carpeted, barring very few, including Khayaban-e-Sehar, which would be completed by June 10 this year. The delegation was further informed that the modified design of Stadium Commercial Car Parking Plaza project would cater for underground parking of more than 700 cars, while commercial plazas will be built astride the car parking area. On the occasion, Tirmizi asked the DHA and CBC staff to work with utmost commitment, devotion and missionary zeal with a view to serve the residents and to resolve their problems efficiently. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg12_7 |
