100 more Sikhs arrive for Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary
LAHORE: A group of 105 Sikh yatris (pilgrims) arrived by a special train on Sunday to observe the 170th death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Additional Secretary Siddique Khurram and Gurdwara Parbandak Committee Pakistan (GPCP) member Sardar Sham Singh received the yatris at the Wagha Railway Station. The group’s leader, Sardar Baldev Singh, said the Sikhs were always made to feel welcome by the people of Pakistan. “That is why we frequently come here,” he said. Baldev called upon the governments of India and Pakistan to remove differences through dialogue. The yatris will perform rituals at Gurdwara Punjab Sahib in Hassanabdal on June 22 and June 23. They will then visit Gurdwara Janamasthan in Nankana Sahib, where they will stay until June 26. The yatris will perform their rituals at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore from June 26, and will mark Ranjit Singh’s death anniversary on June 30. They will leave for India on the same day. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg13_5 |
