Summer traffic plan: Motorbikes banned from Murree city, cantonment areas
Staff Report
RAWALPINDI: Under a summer season traffic plan, the City Traffic Police have banned entry of motorbikes to the limits of Murree Cantonment and City areas. According to a press release issued on Friday, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Akhtar Abbas has finalised this traffic plan for Murree, a picnic spot, to facilitate the tourists. The CTO has declared various roads as one way to avoid traffic mess and also approved a four digits helpline to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Under the plan, entry of vehicles to Mall Road up to GPO Chowk has been completely banned and tourists could access the spot while walking. The roads declared as one-way include Abid Shaheed Road, Aziz Shaheed Road, Government House Road and Pindi Point Road. The traffic police have also managed separate lots for providing maximum space for parking of vehicles. The police and other allied departments would remove encroachments on road and footpaths. The road users have been advised not to violate speed limit of 25 KPH due the construction work at Rawalpindi Murree Kashmir Highway. The police have also advised tourists to get breaks and tyres of their vehicles properly maintained before coming to Murree to avoid accidents. The CTO has set up a camp office in Murree, which would be responsible to check shortfall in traffic warden force and to overcome all traffic related problems. Traffic wardens have also been tasked to distribute among tourists handbills related to safety measures, diversions and detailed traffic plan. http://dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?pag...009_pg11_2 |
