Keep baby’s nails trimmed
The thought of clipping your young baby’s fingernails and toenails may be intimidating, but it’s important to keep the nails trim to prevent scratches while sleeping or playing.
The Nemours Foundation offers these suggestions for trimming baby’s nails: Today’s Health Tips * Have your partner hold the baby while you cut the infant’s nails. * Find a place and position in which your baby appears content, such as in a lap or rocking chair. * Try waiting until baby is asleep. * Hold baby’s palm and the tiny finger you’re working on. Try to hold it steady and not let the finger move. * Use scissors or clippers designed specifically for baby’s nails. * Try using an emery board for infants, instead of nail clippers. * Don’t panic if you see a bit of blood. Dab the area with a sterile gauze pad, but don’t put a bandage on it. The infant may dislodge the bandage, which could become a choking hazard. * Trim baby’s nails at least once a week, or more frequently if your baby’s nails grow quickly. http://www.thenews.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=188267 |
