100% salary raise proposed for teachers, health workers, judges and police
ISLAMABAD: The Pay and Pension Commission-2009 has agreed in principle to a proposal allowing double pay packages for teachers, health workers, judicial officers and police personnel so that public institutions could attract, retain and motivate the best professionals available.
The proposal would now be discussed with the provincial governments before it is finalised during the next meeting of the commission on August 12 and 13. This was discussed at the two-day meeting of the commission that concluded on Thursday with Dr Ishrat Hussain in the chair. The commission also formed various sub-committees to finalise recommendations on the modalities of the proposed pay and pension reforms. The meeting reviewed tentative proposals prepared for the revision of the pay structure and pension of government employees. The commission decided to consult the proposals with the provincial governments and the committee of federal secretaries. One of the major proposals discussed by the commission was to take teachers, health workers, judiciary and police out of the unified pay scales so that public institutions could attract the best talent in these professions for better socio-economic development. During the meeting, presentations on the existing position of pays, allowances and pension to various categories of government employees – at the federal and provincial levels – were made by the military accountant general (MAG), accountant general Pakistan Revenue (AGPR), Project to Improve Financial Reporting and Auditing (PIFRA) director general, and federal and provincial finance ministers. sajid chaudhry http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2009_pg1_2 |
