SC allows NAB inquiry into Rs 9bn BoP loan
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to continue an inquiry into a Rs 9 billion loan case involving the Bank of Punjab and Haris Steel Industries, Lahore. A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, consisting of Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Justice Ejaz Yousaf, put off further proceedings until August 19. The court also admitted for regular hearing the application of Ahmer Bilal Sufi, counsel for former Bank of Punjab president Hamesh Khan, one of the accused, who sought shifting of his case from the Lahore High Court to the SC. Senior counsel for Haris Steel Industries - Sharifuddin Pirzada, Waseem Sajjad and Babar Awan contended before the court that the Rs 9 billion loan was granted to their client after due legal process. They told the court that over 700 employees of the industrial unit had been rendered jobless due to its closure. They also told the court that NAB officials were harassing the unit’s owners and employees. masood rehman http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg7_54 |
