India gives Pakistan new dossier on Hafiz Saeed’s ‘role’ in 26/11
(Naveed adds: Changing statements make case itself less credible, if it was to start with)
* Dossier comes after AG, Interior Minister cite lack of proof By Iftikhar Gilani NEW DELHI: India on Friday handed over a fresh dossier to Islamabad with ‘specific’ information on Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed’s alleged role in the Mumbai terror attacks. A senior Pakistani diplomat confirmed that some “more information” had been handed over to Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik during his meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao. Indian sources said the new information pertains specifically to Saeed. Pakistan had earlier stated that it had not received enough information from India to prosecute Saeed. Saeed, also the founder of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, was last month let off by a court, which said there was no evidence to link him to the 26/11 attacks. Sources said the fresh evidence was handed over to Pakistan as its Attorney General Latif Khosa and Interior Minister Rehman Malik had recently stated that Saeed could not be arrested or prosecuted without concrete evidence. “We have now made available to them concrete evidence and let the world see how they act now,” an Indian official said. Meanwhile, India has chosen to ignore Islamabad’s request for intelligence sharing on New Delhi’s concerns about terrorist attacks allegedly being planned from Pakistani soil. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2009_pg1_9 |
