100% pay increase for some govt employees likely to be proposed
By Sajid Chaudhry
ISLAMABAD: The Pay and Pension Commission is likely to propose a 100-150 percent increase in pay in three specialised fields – education, healthcare and police services – in a pay-and-pension reforms package, official sources told Daily Times on Sunday. However, the federal and the provincial governments would consider the recommendations for implementation in line with the resources available for the next fiscal year starting from July 1, said the sources. A special pay package for officers and lower-grade employees in the three service groups is under consideration to enable them to attract and retain qualified human resources. An increase in pensions in line with the inflation rate, devaluation and other factors and swift disbursement of pension through various banking channels would also be recommended. The increase for officers in Grade 17 and above is also being recommended in a bid to bring pay packages at par with the corporate sector and international organisations, said the sources. The initial recommendations that have been finalised include an increase in house rent from 45 percent of the basic pay to 60 percent. The commission is expected to file its final report soon. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2009_pg7_4 |
