Allottees await possession of plots in Sector D-12
ISLAMABAD: The possession of residential plots in sector D-12 to allottees is still away as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) could not acquire some portion of land, though development in rest of the sector has been almost completed.
“The possession of plots would be handed over to the allottees by end of January. Development work is almost over; however, some pockets are yet to be acquired from adverse possession,” said a senior official of CDA. The sector was opened in 1988 and the development work was started in 2003 but it was suspended following a clash between Islamabad police and the residents over evacuation issue that also caused some casualties. The development work was resumed in January this year and the CDA had committed to give possession of plots to the allottees by July but work on some roads was yet to be done. The security measures banning the entry of dumpers in the federal capital carrying construction material and heavy machinery hampered the development work, he said. “More than 90 percent of development is over despite ban on dumpers’ entry in the city. We are receiving just five to seven dumpers against the demand of 40,” said the spokesperson of the contractor firm M/s Muhammad Ayub and Brothers. He said only the dumpers carrying security pass are allowed entry to the city, adding that one has to pass through a cumbersome procedure to get a security pass. The contract of development was awarded against Rs 520 million that was later escalated to Rs 900 million due to increase in price of steel, construction material and labour, said the CDA official. He said non-acquisition of land in sectors D-12/2 and D-12/4 was also causing huge loss as huge quantity of pipes and construction material was lying useless as the occupants were resisting CDA to evacuate the land. According to the CDA spokesman, the authority was striving for amicable solution to the compensation issue, as some of the occupants are demanding compensation more than the package announced by the civic body. He said the authority would start giving possession to the allottees soon after the completion of development work expected within a month. He said though the minor work in the sector would continue but the allottees would be allowed to construct their houses. app |
