DHA exploring all avenues to resolve water problem
Saturday, December 19, 2009
Karachi The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is exploring all avenues to resolve the pressing problem of water scarcity in the Defence Society areas. This was stated by Administrator of DHA, Brig Khalid Tirmizi, here on Friday. An announcement said that a representative delegation of Association of Defence Residents (ADR) led by its Vice-Chairman, Attique-ur-Rehman, met Administrator DHA, Brig Khalid Tirmizi, at DHA’s Main Office here. It said that the delegation later held a meeting with DHA/ Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) officials to discuss various civic problems of the residents. The delegation was informed that the stalled DHA Cogen Power and Desalination Plant which were put back into operation after hectic efforts of nine months in October 2009 got tripped this month due to a surge causing unprecedented frequency drop in the KESC’s Grid System. The problem has accentuated since the desalination technology, first of its kind in the country, is very sensitive to unstable power supply conditions. Six German engineers and 25 technicians are currently working day and night to put the plant back into operation. The Desalination Plant is expected to become operational by January 15, 2010. The Administrator DHA informed the delegation that DHA/CBC were taking proactive and futuristic measures to address the issue of acute shortage of water supply in DHA. He said that City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has also been approached and requested to help DHA in getting enhanced quantity of bulk water supply from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) which presently was much less than the actual requirement/consumption of water in the DHA/CBC areas. |
