'Night Demolition Operation' starts sans prior notice
LAHORE - The City District Government (CDG) has begun ‘Night Demolition Operation’ on the name of proposed National Ravi Park and demolished as many as 60 structures in various areas on Monday without any prior intimation that left many people homeless.
The demolition was started on the directions of Punjab Government late at night and the administration of Ravi Town participated in the operation under the command of TMO, DDOR and other officials of the town. The residents, industrialist and the landowners were astonished over such demolition operation because the Punjab government on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had announced to cancel the plan to construct the proposed Ravi Park a couple of days ago. However, the people of the area particularly the landowners, industrialists and the residents were shocked due to such sudden change in the decision of the government and also were disappointed after demolition of their properties on part of the government particularly in such circumstances when the government did not issue any notification in this regard. In this regard, the government also started wall chalking cautioning the landowners warning them not to construct any structure within the site of the proposed park otherwise they would have to face serious consequences, which further caused worry to the area people. Earlier, the government rubbed out such wall-chalking when it announced to cancel the project. “Perhaps Punjab Government backed out of its promise to cancel construction of National Ravi Park, which is shocking and not fair on part of the CM”, said Atif, an owner of a building located near Bhamay Jhugian opposite Shadbagh and a victim of the operation. He said that the demolition plan depicts the double standards of the government policies due to which a number of people are suffering badly and also have to bear loss of millions of rupees without any reason. He said government also violated all the rules and regulations by not intimating the building owners before demolishing their homes and other buildings. While expressing his grievances, he said that the town administration also took away the gates and windows, with destroying the entire structure of his building. They also threatened him when he asked them that why they were demolishing walls and rooms of his building and they said that no construction is allowed within the area announced for the construction of National Ravi Park. |
