Old wine in new bottle
ISLAMABAD - The expected dissolution and formation of relatively a smaller federal cabinet would be just like an old wine in a new bottle as most of the key Pakistan People’s Party leaders would remain part of ‘new-look’ cabinet, sources in the government informed The Nation.
These sources further informed that despite getting free hand to dissolve and form new cabinet from the Central Executive Committee of the party Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would be having a little say in the formation of the new cabinet which would have around 32 to 34 members. Prime Minister Gilani would announce the dissolution of the Federal Cabinet by Monday or Tuesday next provided the consultation for the new inductees would be completed by that time including taking coalition partners on board. Practically, the ministers whose ministries and departments are being devolved to the provinces would lose their jobs except a few who would be accommodated in other ministries. The sources said that in the formation of the new smaller federal cabinet all the members who had the blessing of the party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari would stay, however in some cases the portfolios could be changed. The members who would get sure-fire berths in the federal cabinet to be formed after the dissolution of the incumbent one included Federal Minister for Finance Abdul Hafiz Sheikh, Federal Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtar, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Mian Manzoor Wattoo, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Dr. Babar Awan, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar, State Minister for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan, State Minister for Industries and Production Ayatollah Durrani and Advisor to PM with status of federal minister Begum Asma Arbab Alamgir Khan. |
