CDA to serve notices to residents of slums to vacate land in I-11/1 and I-11/4
* Police and UNHCR told to persuade elders of Afghan families in this regard
Staff Report ISLAMABAD: A high level meeting, headed by Chief Commissioner Islamabad Tariq Mahmood Pirzada, decided that today (March 9) Capital Development Authority (CDA) will issue notices of eviction to the illegal occupants of slums of Sector I-11/1 and I-11/4 to vacate the state land within one week and immediately shift their families so that the encroachments could be demolished in a smooth manner. According to police spokesman, in the meeting, Pirzada informed the participants that meeting had been convened to review the decisions of previous meeting to conduct survey of the abovementioned Kachi Abadis to determine the number of Afhan families and other occupants residing in these slums and people eviction and get the land vacate. Pirzada directed the Deputy Commissioner, SSP, CDA director enforcement and representative of UNHCR to convene a joint meeting at their level to persuade the elders of 47 Afghan families to vacate the state land and shift to other places by giving them financial assistance and other resources. Similarly, the elders of remaining occupants will also be persuaded to vacate the land peacefully within a week. Assistant Commissioner (Saddar) Faridud din informed the participants that district administration and police had conducted a detailed survey of these slums. He said according to the report, there were 1,018 families that consisted of total 5,815 persons, residing in these Kachi Abadis. However, out of the 1,018 families, the number of Afghan families is only 47 i e 177 persons who are residing in I-11/1. The other families are Pakistani belonging to Mohmand Agency; some of them are Syed, Yousafzai and Hassan Khail. Director Administration Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed, DIG (Operation) Bin Amin, SSP Tahir Alam Khan, CDA Director Enforcement, Assistant Commissioner Sadar Faridud din and officials of NADRA and UNHCR participated in the meeting. The deputy commissioner and the SSP informed the participants that they, alongwith CDA, had started meetings with the elders to persuade them to vacate the state land within one week. In this regard, they had also held meetings with the traders of Sabzi Mandi and took them into confidence. Similarly, the elders of Afghan families were also being taken into confidence. CDA director enforcement informed that the anti -encroachment wing of CDA was also placing banners in these areas for wider desiminination of information amongst the occupants of state land to vacate these Kachi Abadis immediately within a week. It was decided that the CDA enforcement directorate would launch an operation from March 15 to vacate the state land of these Kachi Abadis from illegal occupants and in this regard , the local administration and police would provide full fledged support to the CDA. The participants also discussed the state of preparedness of operation and combing of these Abadis. |
