Lahore: ‘Theatres suffering heavy losses’
LAHORE: All the theatres have been suffering heavy losses for the last few months, Commercial Producers Association (CPA) Chairman Ch Zulfiqar said on Friday. According to the figures available to Daily Times, the cost of production of a one-day play at the Alfalah Theatre was Rs 128,000 while the average tickets sold per day earned Rs 45,000. At Tamaseel, a one-day play cost Rs 33,000 while the average tickets sold earned Rs 8,000. At Mehfil Theatre, the cost of staging a one-day play was Rs 72,000 while tickets sold earned Rs 21,000 per day. At Naaz Theatre, a play cost Rs 45,000 while the tickets sold earned Rs 16,000. At Alhamra, a one-day play cost Rs 20,000 while the tickets sold earned Rs 10,000. Zulfiqar said the theatre artists were working for half the fee they charged previously, but the expenditures of staging a play were still not being met. He demanded the government to take notice of the situation and do something to save the theatre industry from going out of business. ali usman
