Rs46mn bounty for Tehrik-i-Taliban Swat leaders

Friday, 29 May, 2009 | 05:43 AM PST The highest bounty of Rs5 million was placed on the head of Tehrik-i-Taliban Swat Chief Maulana Fazlullah, followed by Rs4 million for TTS spokesman Muslim Khan. - APP photo Provinces ISLAMABAD: The government of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has announced a bounty of Rs46 million for the capture of 21 terrorist commanders of Tehrik-i-Taliban Swat (TTS), including its chief Maulana Fazalullah, dead or alive or for information about their whereabouts. The Frontier government also published an advertisement in national dailies on Thursday, carrying photographs of 18 of the 21 commanders for whom the head money ranging from Rs1 million to Rs5 million has been announced. The government held out an assurance that names of the people providing information leading to arrest of the wanted men would be kept secret. It sought people’s support in giving due punishment to terrorists for their acts of killing innocent people and snatching shelter from mothers, sisters and daughters and compelling them to be displaced in their own country. According to the advertisement, the highest bounty of Rs5 million was placed on head of Tehrik-i-Taliban Swat chief Maulana Fazlullah, followed by Rs4 million for TTS spokesman Muslim Khan, TTS Naib Ameer Shah Doran and a local commander Namal Ibn-i-Ameen, who is notorious for beheading people. Five TTS commanders will carry Rs3 million each on their heads. Their names are Qari Mushtaq (Gali Bagh), Mehmood Khan (Kozaband), Sirajuddin (Malamjabba), Bakht Farzand and Mufti Aftab of Matta. Commander of Kabal Akbar Hussain and commander of Khuza Khel Liaqat have head money of Rs2 million. A reward of Rs1 million has been offered for nine militants who oversaw TTS activities in small towns. They are: Mian Gul Ghafoor (Kuzaband), Nisar Ahmed (Matta), Lal Din alias Baray Mian (Toorabanda), Anwarullah alias Anwar (Kaza Bamakhel), Bashir Ahmed, Sultan Hussain, Rashid Ahmed, Shahanshah of Dheri and Maulana Muhammad Ameen. The announcement belied media speculations about the death of several militant leaders in Swat.
