Lahore: Police proclaimed statistics of anti-crime efforts
LAHORE: Police has caught around 373 criminal gangs and arrested 1,185 members, while looted property worth Rs 577 million has also been recovered during the first six months of the current year, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Pervez Rathore was informed in a meeting on Monday.
As many as 13,511 court absconders and proclaimed offenders have also been nabbed during this period. It was added that no less than 3,445 cases had also been traced against the 1,185 accused, including 14 murder cases, seven armed robberies-cum-murders, 49 armed robberies, 1,561 robberies, 1,073 burglaries and 786 other cases. The Lahore police has recovered stolen goods worth Rs 170 million, including Rs 17.46 million in cash, two kilograms in gold ornaments, 108 cars, 222 motorcycles, 1,453 cell phones, 23 pickups and rickshaws, two tractors and other precious items. In its campaign against outlaws, the city police have also arrested 7,347 proclaimed offenders, out of which 370 were involved in murder cases, 266 in attempted murders, 146 in armed robberies, 380 in robberies, 756 in burglaries and 5,429 in other miscellaneous cases during the said period, the meeting was informed. During the drive against illegal weapons, 3,294 cases were registered and 3,297 accused were arrested, with police seizing 12 Kalashnikovs, 174 rifles, 213 guns, 2,672 pistols and revolvers, 23 carbines, 10 mousers, six bombs, two jackets, 41 daggers, 34 kg ammunition and more than 23,000 bullets from their possession. The city police also arrested 4,522 drug pushers and seized as much as 47 kg heroin, 1,113 kg hashish, 64 kg opium, 576 injections and 11,557 bottles of liquor, while it also arrested 2,989 gamblers and seized stake money worth Rs 4 million. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...009_pg7_38 |
