TTP’s spokesman Maulvi Omer arrested

GHALANAI: In a major breakthrough in the battle against the Taliban, a peace committee arrested the main spokesman for the TTP – Maulvi Omer – from Mohmand Agency on Monday, said officials on Tuesday.

Talking to Daily Times, army spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas confirmed the arrest. The spokesman and two other men accompanying him were arrested from Atta Bazaar, said an administration source. Abbas said he could not say if Maulvi Omer had confirmed Baitullah Mehsud’s death, but the AFP news agency Maulvi Omer confirmed Baitullah had been killed. Official sources said he was on his way to South Waziristan to attend a meeting of the Taliban to choose a successor to Baitullah.
