Crime rate in Punjab down 50% since Shahbaz Sharif sworn in'
LAHORE: The crime rate in Punjab has declined by 50 percent since Shahbaz Sharif was sworn in as the chief minister (CM), said Inspector General (Prisons) Farooq Nazeer on Sunday.
He said the CM had given a free hand to the Police Department to provide justice to people. The CM had also directed the department to ensure registration of cases. He said the Prisons Department, on the directions of Prisons Minister Abdul Ghafoor, had computerised the record of prisoners of the Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat Jail and Camp Jail, Lahore. He said the record would help the police crackdown on hardened criminals. He said, “Editors, chief news editors and bureau chiefs of leading newspapers and channels can visit any jail during office hours.” He said the CM had revised the food menu of prisoners to ensure that they recieved the proper nutrition during their incarcerations. He said that for dinner, the prisoners would have beef and bread on Mondays, pulses and bread/rice on Tuesdays, chicken, bread and sweet rice on Wednesdays, vegetable and bread on Thursdays, white grams and bread on Fridays, chicken and bread on Saturday and vegetable and bread on Sundays. app http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...008_pg7_44 |
