Senate body proposes 3-year imprisonment for SIM card misuse
ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior’s sub-committee on Tuesday proposed at least three-year jail sentence and one million rupees fine for those misusing SIM cards. The sub-committee set a three-week deadline for ministries of information technology and interior, and the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) to prepare a draft bill for amendment to Section 131 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Act for the purpose. The draft will be submitted to parliament for approval, committee chairman Talha Mehmood told reporters after a meeting here.The senator said the committee had learnt about a kidnapping for ransom case in which a Wireless Local Loop set was used but there existed no record of the connection. Mehmood said modern technology was being used for crime.
