Lahore:Construction of golf course in Race Course Park: PHA DG served contempt notice

LAHORE: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued a contempt notice to Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Director General (DG) Raheel Ahmad Siddiqui for failing to comply with the court’s order about opening the Race Course Park gates.

The judge also restrained the PHA from modifying the construction and layout of the park. The judge issued the directions while hearing a petition filed by lawyer Shafqat Mehmood Chohan.

Chohan pleaded the PHA had decided to construct a golf course near the park’s Gate No 3, which had already been closed to visitors. He alleged the proposed construction was to facilitate the children of bureaucrats living in GOR-1.

On Monday, Siddiqui appeared before the court and said the PHA was not going to construct a golf course in the park, but could not satisfy the court when asked why all the park gates had not been opened despite a court order. The judge served him a contempt notice.

The petitioner also alleged a large number of children were being deprived of different types of swings installed in the park. He said the PHA action was discriminatory and deserved to the declared null and void.
