Aitzaz acknowledges he was offered top positions
* Former SCBA president says details of offer will ‘cause some people sleepless nights’
LAHORE: Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Aitzaz Ahsan has admitted that he was offered a top position in the government, a private TV channel reported on Monday. Talking to reporters at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal in Lahore, Aitzaz said he was associated with the Pakistan People’s Party and found nothing wrong in accepting a government position. He said talks in this regard were being held with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Online reported. However, he said if he disclosed more details about the offer, it would “cause some people sleepless nights”. Aitzaz advised all those protected under the National Reconciliation aOrdinance (NRO) to get pre-arrest bail, adding that those whose cases were being pursued by the National Accountability Bureau should approach the Supreme Court. He said former president Pervez Musharraf had strengthened the NRO through a constitutional amendment but the Supreme Court, through its July 31 verdict, declared the amendment invalid. To a question, the renowned lawyer clarified that the president enjoyed immunity against court action under Article 248 of the constitution. daily times monitor/online http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp...2009_pg1_5 |
