LAHORE

THE capital city police officer has directed the police officers to ensure installation of close-circuit cameras at ATM machines, shops, business centres and banks in their respective areas.

CCPO Muhammad Pervez Rathore was chairing a meeting on Sunday to review security arrangements at banks and business centres. He said that implementation of the Shops and Establishment (Security) Ordinance could help reduce crimes of serious nature as well as identification of criminals in case of any incident. He also directed the DSPs that they stress upon financial institutions and business establishments in their respective areas to install recording devices with close-circuit cameras.

He said that under the Act posting of two security guards was mandatory for the financial institutions doing business involving more than Rs. 5million whereas one security guard was essential for business centres having business worth Rs 500,000 to 2,500,000. He also directed cinema-owners to ensure use of metal detectors and play slides in cinemas for creating awareness in the masses about the activities of terrorists. He appealed to the trader community as well as heads of financial and industrial institutions to cooperate with the police in ensuring implementation of the said Act.

According to handout, while presiding over a departmental meeting to review the security arrangements at banks and business centres in Lahore, he said that the implementation of Shops and Establishment (Security) Ordinance could help reduce crimes and help identify criminals. Rathore said that murderers of a goldsmith had been identified because of the closed circuit cameras, while criminals involved in the thievery of Rs 2,000,000 in Multan could not be traced as no closed circuit cameras had been installed at the bank. He also ordered all deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to stress upon financial institutions and business establishments in their respective areas to install recording devices and closed circuit cameras.

Rathore said that, under the act, two security guards were mandatory for all financial institutions involved in business that involves more than Rs 5,000,000, addind that one security guard was mandatory for business centres dealing with Rs 500,000 to 2,500,000. He said that closed circuit TVs and recording devices should be checked regularly and information regarding suspicious persons should be immediately conveyed to the police. He also ordered cinema owners to ensure the utilisation of metal detectors and play slides to create awareness among the masses about terrorist activities.

He also ordered superintendents of police (SPs) to launch a campaign in their respective areas regarding the implementation and benefits of the Shops and Establishment (Security) Act.
